France increases emergency aid for farmers facing agricultural crisis
The Mutualité Sociale Agricole (MSA) has announced an exceptional increase in its crisis budget for 2026. The social protection organism is raising the envelope dedicated to supporting vulnerable members from an initial 400,000 euros to 4.275 million euros. This funding, sourced from the National Fund for Sanitary and Social Action (FNASS), aims to provide emergency relief, including relocation assistance in fire-affected areas, replacement aid, and psychological support to address the economic and mental health challenges caused by recent heatwaves and droughts.
Separately, the French government is managing aid funds to mitigate rising fertilizer costs. While some administrative delays exist, the government reports that approximately 17.1 million euros has been projected for fertilizer purchase assistance through 7,248 applications. This fund, which includes 107 million euros from European Union resources, was established following price surges linked to maritime disruptions. Agriculture Minister Annie Genevard has urged farmers to submit paid invoices before early 2027 to ensure the European funds are utilized and not returned to Brussels.
