France isolates five contacts after doctor tests positive for Ebola
France identified five individuals who may have been exposed to a doctor who tested positive for Ebola virus after returning from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The contacts, who were traveling with the doctor on the same flight, were placed in isolation and will remain under observation for the 21‑day incubation period. Health Minister Stéphanie Rist said the doctor showed no symptoms during the flight but reported a headache, prompting the alert.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control assessed the risk of transmission to the wider European population as very low. The Democratic Republic of Congo currently reports 1,118 confirmed Ebola cases with 291 deaths, while WHO officials noted that the outbreak, though growing locally, poses a limited global threat.
