France issues alert over 40,000 non-compliant condoms

French health and consumer protection authorities, including the Direction Générale de la Santé (DGS) and the DGCCRF, have issued an alert regarding over 40,000 non-compliant condoms sold in France. Approximately 1,000 boxes of these products were identified as failing to meet mandatory safety standards, including a lack of required CE marking and failure to undergo necessary safety testing.

Investigations revealed that many of these products were distributed by Asian sellers via online marketplaces, such as Amazon, as well as through various pharmacies and retailers. A significant number of the non-compliant items lacked French-language packaging. Specific brands mentioned in relation to these non-conformities include Friday Bae (Le Préservatif), Okamoto (003 and 002), Sagami (Sagami Original 002), and My Lubie.

Because condoms are classified as medical devices in Europe, they must adhere to strict requirements regarding biocompatibility and leak resistance. Due to the potential loss of efficacy and safety risks, health authorities are urging consumers who have used these products to undergo testing for sexually transmitted infections.
