France issues health warning over non-compliant and defective condoms
French health and consumer protection authorities (DGS and DGCCRF) have issued an urgent warning regarding non-compliant condoms sold both online and in physical retail locations, including pharmacies.
Approximately 260,000 units of two specific products that carry the CE mark are being recalled from pharmacies and shops due to laboratory findings showing risks of bursting or the presence of micro-perforations.
Additionally, authorities identified roughly 30 product lines sold on major online marketplaces that lack the mandatory CE marking, third-party conformity assessments, or required French-language packaging. Over 40,000 of these non-compliant units, contained in about 1,000 boxes, have already been sold, primarily through Asian distributors. Brands mentioned in the reports include Okamoto Industries, My Lubie, Friday Bae, and Sagami.
Due to the potential for unintended pregnancies and the transmission of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), authorities recommend that anyone who has used the affected products undergo STI testing and pregnancy testing if menstrual cycles are delayed.
