France launches 500 million euro aid package for energy crisis

France has introduced a 500 million euro aid package to support small businesses struggling with soaring energy costs. The crisis follows a spike in fuel prices linked to the conflict in Iran that began on February 28.

Small businesses, particularly in rural areas, are facing significant financial pressure. In the baking sector, which includes over 34,000 professionals producing approximately 6 billion baguettes annually, about one quarter of establishments rely on oil- or gas-fired ovens. Business owners report that the cost of heating oil has risen sharply, with some paying nearly the same amount for significantly less fuel than in previous months. These increased expenditures are impacting wages, employee raises, and business investments.
