France launches PNNS 5 nutrition health program for 2026‑2030
The French government officially launched the fifth National Nutrition Health Programme (PNNS 5) on 8 April 2026 during the One Health Summit in Lyon. The four‑year plan, running to 2030, is overseen by Dr Mathilde Touvier, director of the epidemiology nutrition research team at EREN.
Key targets include raising the share of French consumers using the Nutri‑Score from 33 % to 40 % and increasing the proportion of processed‑food sales displaying the Nutri‑Score logo to 75 %. A three‑year Nutri‑Score trial in collective catering will also be piloted. The programme aims to cut childhood and adolescent overweight by 30 % and reduce obesity in disadvantaged groups by 20 %. It sets a goal of 12 % market share for organic products by 2030 and mandates measures such as removing confectionery from checkout aisles, lowering sugar in children’s foods, and tightening advertising rules for unhealthy products.
