France national nutrition program rollout

In early July 2026, Mathilde Touvier was named head of France’s new national nutrition initiative, taking charge of the epidemiology‑nutrition research team at EREN.

A month later, the French government officially launched the fifth National Nutrition Health Programme (PNNS 5) at the One Health Summit in Lyon. The four‑year plan (2026‑2030) sets ambitious targets: increasing Nutri‑Score usage among consumers from 33 % to 40 %, expanding Nutri‑Score labeling on processed foods to 75 %, piloting a three‑year Nutri‑Score trial in collective catering, cutting childhood and adolescent overweight by 30 %, reducing obesity in disadvantaged groups by 20 %, and achieving a 12 % market share for organic products. Additional measures include removing confectionery from checkout aisles, lowering sugar in children’s foods, and tightening advertising rules for unhealthy products.
