France mandates electronic invoicing for auto garages

A new French regulation requires all auto‑repair garages to receive electronic invoices (e‑invoices) starting 1 September 2026, with the obligation to issue their own e‑invoices by 1 September 2027 for SMEs and micro‑enterprises. The law specifies that invoicing must use standards such as Factur‑X, UBL or CII, making non‑compliant software unusable for tax purposes.

Garages must therefore adopt integrated management solutions that combine workshop planning, parts inventory and compliant e‑invoicing. The shift promises faster invoice validation, reduced payment delays, lower administrative costs and better cash‑flow monitoring, while freeing staff to focus on higher‑value tasks. The article illustrates the impact with a case study of Karim, a small‑town garage owner who must replace his legacy spreadsheet‑based system with a modern, compliant platform to stay operational and avoid penalties.
