A new decree published in the French Journal Officiel mandates new labeling requirements for certain fuels at gas stations. Effective as of August 27, 2026, fuel pumps distributing unleaded superfuels that contain metallic additives must now display the visible and legible notice: ‘Contient des additifs métalliques.’

Beyond labeling, the regulation updates technical specifications for E5 and E10 gasoline, as well as diesel, to align with updated European standards (NF EN 228 and NF EN 590) released by the European Committee for Standardization in July 2025.

A key technical change includes a new cap on manganese content; for both unleaded superfuel and SP95-E10, the maximum manganese concentration is now set at 2 milligrams per liter. The decree also introduces updated requirements for diesel, specifically regarding particle counts.
