French fuel composition and labeling regulations
Overview
On August 27, 2026, new French regulations regarding fuel composition and labeling took effect. An official decree mandates that gas pumps dispensing unleaded supercarburant containing metallic additives must clearly display the notice: ‘Contient des additifs métalliques.’
The regulation also establishes a maximum limit for manganese content in fuels such as SP95-E10, capping it at 2 mg per liter. These updates align French technical specifications for E5 and E10 gasoline, as well as diesel, with European standards (NF EN 228 and NF EN 590) released by the European Committee for Standardization in July 2025. Additionally, the decree introduces updated requirements for diesel specifically regarding particle counts.
