France maritime rescues: 23 people saved in Normandy and Pas-de-Calais
Emergency services in France conducted multiple maritime rescues across Normandy and Pas-de-Calais over the weekend of September 26-27, 2026.
In Normandy, rescuers assisted three pleasure boats. These incidents included a sailboat near Granville suffering from rudder damage, a vessel stuck in rocks near Chausey, and a boat that ran out of fuel near Dives-sur-Mer. A total of sixteen people were rescued safely without injury.
In Pas-de-Calais, high spring tides led to several rescues involving pedestrians. Seven people and two animals were rescued after being trapped by rising tides at beaches in Berck-sur-Mer, Sainte-Cécile, and the Authie Bay. Authorities have issued renewed warnings for vigilance during the current tidal cycle, which lasts until September 30.
