France promotes literacy through reading aloud initiatives

In France, new and established initiatives are focusing on promoting literacy through reading aloud to children. The association Les Petits champions de la lecture is launching its 15th edition of its national game, designed for students in CM1 and CM2 grades. The program aims to foster a love for books, build public speaking confidence, and serve as a tool for social equality by providing all children with the skills to express themselves.

In Le Havre, a new neighborhood association called Les Amis de la Petite Librairie has begun offering individualized reading sessions for children aged 0 to 6. Unlike traditional readings, this approach places the reader at the child's eye level in a comfortable environment, allowing the child to control the pace, turn the pages, and interact freely with the story to encourage personal appropriation of the text.
