France orders recall of 7 million condoms across Europe
French authorities have ordered the recall and withdrawal of 15 types of ultra-thin condoms from the European market due to manufacturing defects. The products, produced by the Malaysian company Richter Rubber Technology, represent approximately 7 million units across the European Union.
Laboratory tests conducted by the Directorate-General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) identified irregularities in the thickness and quality of the latex film. These defects caused products to fail pressure, burst volume, and perforation tests, creating a risk of breakage or tearing during use. Such failures could compromise protection against sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancies.
Since initial recalls earlier this summer, eight users have reported condom breakages. In response, the French government has suspended the sale and import of all ultra-thin condoms from this manufacturer produced via the defective process for one year, a measure that may be renewed. Authorities recommend that individuals who have used the affected products undergo testing for sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy tests if menstruation is delayed.
