France recalls Saint‑Nectaire cheese over Listeria risk

A voluntary recall has been launched for Saint‑Nectaire AOP cheese (including the Wälchli variety) after official controls detected Listeria monocytogenes in two production lots. The contaminated batches, produced by the Schoepfer establishments, were sold as 140‑gram portions in major French supermarkets such as E. Leclerc, Intermarché, Carrefour, Auchan, Coopérative U, Inouit and Drôme Agro. Lot numbers 26027452 (expiry 14‑17 Aug 2026) and 26027453 (expiry 14‑15 Aug 2026) are affected. Consumers are advised not to eat the cheese, to return it to the point of purchase for a refund, and to contact the alert line 04 90 13 61 52 if symptoms appear. Health officials warn that listeriosis can be severe, especially for pregnant women, the elderly and immunocompromised individuals, and it remains a leading cause of food‑borne deaths in France.
