France reports high mortality among homeless population in 2025

A report by the collective Les Morts de la Rue reveals that at least 927 people died without a home in France during 2025. This figure is a slight decrease from the 938 deaths recorded in 2024, though the collective notes this represents only a minimum based on authenticated official records.

On average, individuals experiencing homelessness die at age 49, which is approximately thirty years younger than the general population. The report highlights that one in three deaths occurs in public spaces, and deaths related to cold weather have reached their highest level since 2012.

The collective works to establish the identities of the deceased to ensure they do not pass away anonymously, mobilizing volunteers to reconstruct names and histories for funeral services.
