France reports rise in Covid-19 consultations
France is experiencing a rise in medical consultations due to suspected Covid-19 infections. According to Santé publique France, SOS Médecins recorded a 76% increase in acts for suspected Covid-19 between September 14 and September 20, 2026, compared to the previous week.
Emergency department visits have also risen, with a 67% increase among adults and a 16% increase among children. While these figures indicate a resurgence, health officials note they remain lower than levels seen in previous years. Wastewater monitoring in regions like Île-de-France and Normandy also shows an increase in viral presence, with levels in Île-de-France comparable to October 2024.
The XFG sub-lineage, a recombinant of the LF.7 and LP.8.1 lineages within the Omicron family, has been identified. Health professionals are calling for the vaccination campaign, scheduled to begin on October 13, to be prioritized to manage the pressure on the healthcare system and mitigate potential economic impacts on public finances.
