France sees rise in Covid-19 cases and wastewater viral loads

Health indicators in France suggest a resurgence of Covid-19 circulation. Monitoring of 54 wastewater treatment stations shows a continuous increase in viral load, which serves as a predictive signal ahead of clinical diagnoses.

Data from Santé publique France and the Sentinelles network indicate a rise in medical consultations and emergency room visits, particularly among children under 15 and adults aged 15 to 64. This trend coincides with the return to school and increased professional activity.

Despite the increase in cases, epidemiologist Antoine Flahault notes that viral concentrations remain significantly lower than the peaks observed during the same period last year. Current levels of hybrid immunity are expected to prevent the severe forms of the disease seen in earlier pandemic waves, and hospital services are not currently facing congestion.
