Rain and strong winds hit northern France and Belgium while the south enjoys warm sunshine

A new weather disturbance moved across northern France and Belgium on 5‑6 June 2026, bringing widespread rain, thunderstorms and gusts of 60‑90 km/h along the Atlantic coast and in the Hauts‑de‑France region. Temperatures in the affected north‑west areas stayed between 16 °C and 20 °C, with occasional higher highs near the coast. In contrast, the south‑east and Mediterranean zones stayed dry and warm, reaching up to 29 °C in places such as Saint‑Tropez and 26 °C in Lyon, which also recorded the highest UV index. The forecast warned of continued unsettled conditions on Sunday, followed by a risk of isolated thunderstorms on Monday, especially around Lyon. Air quality in the Hauts‑de‑France improved thanks to a south‑west wind, though ozone levels remained moderate.
