France sued for allowing corporate support of Israel's occupation

Five human‑rights organizations – the International Federation for Human Rights, Jurists for the Respect of International Law, the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians, the Ligue des Droits de l’Homme and Law for Palestine – filed a legal challenge before the Conseil d’État, France’s highest administrative court. They seek an order requiring the French government to adopt effective measures that prevent French companies and financial institutions from contributing to Israel’s unlawful occupation of the occupied Palestinian territory.

The plaintiffs argue that France has failed to implement the obligations set out in the International Court of Justice’s July 2024 advisory opinion, which declared Israel’s presence in the territories illegal and said states must not aid or assist the occupation. James Goldston, executive director of the Open Society Justice Initiative, said, "The International Court of Justice left no doubt that states cannot stand on the sidelines when faced with legal obligations." The case names the French prime minister and ministries of economy, foreign affairs and commerce as defendants.
