France to reimburse reusable menstrual products starting October 2026

Starting October 1, 2026, the French health insurance system (Assurance Maladie) will begin reimbursing certain reusable menstrual products, including menstrual underwear and menstrual cups. The measure is designed to support young people and individuals facing financial hardship.

Eligibility is divided into two main categories: individuals under the age of 26, who can receive between 55% and 65% reimbursement regardless of income, and beneficiaries of the Complémentaire santé solidaire (C2S), who are eligible for 100% reimbursement regardless of age. The reimbursement is capped at two products per rolling year.

To qualify, products must be purchased at a pharmacy and meet specific regulatory standards, such as Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification and a minimum absorption capacity of 12 ml. Washable sanitary pads are explicitly excluded from this reimbursement scheme.
