France to reveal agricultural emergency fund amount on September 3

French Agriculture Minister Annie Genevard has announced that the total amount for a ‘global support plan’ for the agricultural sector will be revealed on September 3. The plan aims to assist farmers heavily impacted by heatwaves, droughts, and wildfires.

Genevard stated that the targeted aid will be allocated on a department-by-department basis to support cash flows and restart production. This ‘emergency fund’ will be managed by local prefects and is expected to be deployed rapidly this autumn. The minister described the current drought as ‘exceptional,’ noting that while regions like Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie are particularly affected, the impact is being felt across all regions, including Brittany.

This announcement follows the publication of the agricultural emergency law in the Official Journal, which was promulgated by Emmanuel Macron after being largely validated by the Constitutional Council. The law was designed to address previous agricultural unrest and now arrives as the sector faces unprecedented drought conditions.
