A regional train traveling from Rouen to Caen derailed in Cléon, Normandy, on Friday evening, injuring 44 passengers. The train was carrying 186 people when the incident occurred, which involved five carriages derailing and one overturning.

Investigators are examining the possibility of sabotage after discovering a piece of rail, estimated to weigh between 250 and 300 kilograms, on the tracks. While some regional officials have suggested the act may be criminal, Rouen prosecutor Sébastien Gallois stated there is currently no evidence of a malicious act or an attack.

Among the injured was an 18-year-old woman who was airlifted to Rouen University Hospital in critical condition; however, authorities report her condition has since improved and she is no longer in danger. Two separate investigations are underway: a judicial inquiry led by the prosecutor and a technical investigation by the Bureau d’enquêtes sur les accidents de transport terrestre (BEA-TT).
