France weather: summer sun and warmth return despite regional storm risks
France is experiencing highly variable weather patterns following recent intense heatwaves and storm activity. While many regions are seeing a return to more stable and pleasant summer conditions for the weekend of August 22-23, significant regional contrasts remain.
In the south and southwest, including areas like Bordeaux and Toulouse, temperatures are expected to reach around 27°C. Conversely, northern regions like Lille may face cooler, wetter conditions with temperatures near 20°C. Some areas in the southeast have recently dealt with heavy rain and flooding alerts, while the Aude department saw violent storms and hail disrupt local festivities.
Forecasts indicate a period of relative calm and sunshine for much of the country this weekend, though Météo-France has maintained storm vigilance in specific departments such as Landes, Nord, Pas-de-Calais, and parts of the Pyrenees. A new period of active rain and storms is anticipated to develop between August 24 and August 27.
