Météo-France has issued multiple weather alerts across France involving severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and flooding risks. Initial alerts placed Corsica under orange vigilance for thunderstorms, with forecasts predicting wind gusts up to 150 km/h and heavy rainfall. In mainland France, the departments of Isère, Drôme, and Ardèche were also placed under orange vigilance for violent thunderstorms capable of producing hail. Subsequent warnings expanded the scope of the weather event. Ten departments, primarily in the Southeast, were placed under yellow vigilance for rain and flooding. Additionally, 37 departments were placed under thunderstorm vigilance, including Morbihan in Brittany, where heavy rainfall was anticipated. Recent updates indicate that the Alpes-Maritimes and Var departments are now under orange alerts for both storms and potential flooding. Authorities have warned of intense electrical activity, hail, and rainfall accumulations that could reach up to 120 mm. In Corsica, the threat remains significant, particularly in the western part of the island, where forecasts predict intense thunderstorms and wind gusts between 120 km/h and 150 km/h, alongside heavy rainfall of 30 to 50 mm in short periods. Residents have been advised to avoid outdoor activities, stay away from trees and rivers, and seek shelter in sturdy buildings. In response to the situation in Corsica, authorities moved 1,360 people from outdoor accommodations to safety. Flight disruptions have been reported at Bastia and Calvi airports, including cancellations to Paris, Nice, and Nantes. In the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, access to forests, bodies of water, and hiking trails like the GR20 has been restricted. In the Var, intense electrical activity and heavy rain have led to power outages for thousands of households and localized flooding. Corsica has since been placed under renewed orange alerts for intense thunderstorm activity, specifically affecting the western coast and Cap Corse.
