France wildfires trigger suspect arrest and nationwide heat alerts

French authorities arrested a 32‑year‑old man suspected of igniting multiple wildfires in the Var department near Marseille, which burned about 4,500 hectares between 19‑24 July. The arson charges include damage to forests and vegetation. The fires have forced the evacuation of more than 250,000 people, with roughly 220,000 displaced in the Gironde department.
