France's 2026 Baccalauréat reforms reshape exam options and grading criteria

The French Baccalauréat, set to begin on 8 June 2026, introduces major changes to optional subjects. Options are now assessed only through continuous control, receive a modest weight (coefficient 4 if taken in both years, 2 if only in the final year), and students may select only two, with Latin and Greek as exceptions. These options no longer provide a safety‑net of bonus points but can still strengthen a Parcoursup application by signalling commitment and profile.

Grading teachers say the first impression of a copy matters: layout, readability and clear paragraphing give a psychological edge, while repeated orthographic mistakes and hidden off‑topic content quickly lower marks. A brief final review focused on spelling is recommended.

The SVT speciality, chosen by about 25 % of candidates, features a written exam (two exercises, up to 15 points) and a one‑hour practical test (5 points). It will be held on 16–17 June, covering themes such as genetics, planetary issues, and human physiology.
