France's logistics sector attracts record €15 billion Amazon investment

At the Choose France 2026 summit, the French logistics market announced a surge in investment, with Amazon unveiling a plan to spend over €15 billion on new facilities over the next three years. The company will open three new centres, adding 1,000 jobs to the 7,000 already pledged.

Overall logistics spending in France jumped 105.6% in 2024, reaching roughly €4 billion after a sharp decline the previous year. By the end of 2024 the country hosted about 3,900 depots covering 93 million m², concentrated in the Paris, Lille, Marseille and Lyon regions, which together hold more than 55% of the space. Cheap land – for example, Paris‑area ground priced at one‑third of comparable sites in London – and strong transport links continue to draw developers.

E‑commerce remains the main growth driver, prompting larger, multi‑level warehouses such as Amazon’s 189,000 m² site in Ensisheim. The sector still faces challenges, including limited public‑transport access for workers, ongoing recruitment shortages and the gradual rollout of robotics that has yet to replace low‑skill labour. Logistics now accounts for about 10% of French employment and is expected to keep expanding.
