Francesco Boccia says PD, M5S and AVS form open centre‑left bloc

Francesco Boccia, the Senate leader of Italy’s Partito Democratico (PD), told Adnkronos that the PD, Movimento 5 Stelle and Avanti Verdi – Sinistra (AVS) constitute a political bloc that is “absolutely open to alliances.” He said the three parties vote together in about 95 % of cases and have already co‑signed 16 amendments to the recent budget law covering tax, labour and youth support. Boccia emphasized that this broad centre‑left grouping aims to attract voters who are dissatisfied with the current government, describing the Meloni administration as “disastrous.” He also critiqued other right‑wing forces, warning that Roberto Vannacci joining the centre‑right would threaten Forza Italia, and noting a crisis in the Lega and a pivotal choice for Fratelli d’Italia. Boccia condemned remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump towards Giorgia Meloni, calling them a failure of foreign policy and stressing Italy’s role as the “heart and arms” of Europe.
