Francesco Guccini: private funeral held in Pavana after death at 86

Italian singer-songwriter and poet Francesco Guccini has died at the age of 86. A private, secular funeral service was held in the courtyard of his home in Pavana, attended by approximately forty close friends and family members, including his wife Raffaella Zuccari and daughter Teresa.

Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, Archbishop of Bologna and a close friend of the artist, delivered a moving tribute, describing Guccini as an "agnostic possibilist" who never stopped seeking answers through his music and literature. The cities of Bologna and Modena have declared periods of mourning to honor his cultural legacy.

Guccini's influence spanned decades, bridging popular music with high literary standards. His work, including iconic songs like "La locomotiva" and "Dio è morto," served as a social and historical commentary for generations of Italians. Various musical groups and public figures, including the band I Nomadi and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, have expressed their condolences. A public commemorative event is expected to take place in Bologna in September.
