Francesco Rocca addresses Rome housing emergency amid criticism

Regional President Francesco Rocca warned that allocations of public housing in Rome must follow the established waiting‑list criteria and distinguished the role of the municipality in providing emergency shelter from the management of permanent public housing. He stressed that families evacuated from structurally unsafe buildings remain the city's responsibility and called for greater transparency in the process.

Rome's housing commission chair Yuri Trombetti (PD) disputed Rocca's claim that the region had already supplied all available homes, noting that in 2026 the regional agency Ater transferred only 78 public units to the city, far short of the demand. Trombetti urged the Lazio administration to accelerate the recovery, renovation and delivery of vacant homes to meet the needs of the waiting list.
