Francis Lawrence to direct Red Rising film adaptation

Paramount Pictures has acquired the film rights to Pierce Brown’s 2014 novel, Red Rising, and has hired director Francis Lawrence to helm the feature adaptation. Lawrence, known for directing the Hunger Games franchise, Constantine, and I Am Legend, will also produce the film alongside Cameron MacConomy and Francesco Goedhuis.

The screenplay will be written by Justin Rhodes, who previously collaborated with Lawrence on the Netflix adaptation of Bioshock. Author Pierce Brown is set to serve as an executive producer. The project, which was previously being developed as a television series, will follow the story of Darrow, a miner in a color-coded class system on future Mars, as he infiltrates a high-society caste known as the ‘Golds’.

Red Rising is the first installment in a series that has sold over 6 million copies. A release date for the film has not yet been announced.
