Paramount Red Rising film adaptation development

Paramount Pictures has acquired the film rights to Pierce Brown’s science fiction novel, ‘Red Rising’, for a cinematic adaptation. Justin Rhodes is tasked with writing the screenplay. Author Pierce Brown will serve as an executive producer. No official release date has been announced.

Director Francis Lawrence recently revealed that the project had been stalled for eight years. It was originally intended to be a series at Netflix, with two pilots already written, but frequent leadership changes and shifting content priorities at the streaming platform prevented progress. Following the reversion of rights to Pierce Brown, the project transitioned to Paramount. Lawrence has expressed a preference for a theatrical release rather than a streaming-only model.
