Franco Colapinto faces uncertain Alpine future amid strong F1 performance

Argentine driver Franco Colapinto is facing an uncertain future with the Alpine Formula 1 team despite a strong performance in the first half of the season. While his recent results have “alleviated doubts” regarding his long-term potential, reports indicate that a contract extension through 2027 is currently on hold. F1 expert Marc Limacher suggests that Alpine advisor Flavio Briatore has paused the signing to remain flexible for potential movements in the driver market.

Colapinto has seen a significant rise in value, including a USD 5 million increase in his F1 Fantasy market valuation. His performance has helped Alpine transition into a competitive midfield contender following the team's switch to Mercedes power units. Colapinto is scheduled to return to racing at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort on August 21.

Separately, Flavio Briatore is advocating for radical changes to Formula 1's financial regulations. He has proposed strengthening the budget cap by including driver salaries, arguing that current exemptions allow wealthier teams to maintain an unfair advantage through massive personnel expenditures.
