Franco Colapinto rises from 19th to ninth, earns points at Silverstone Grand Prix
Argentine driver Franco Colapinto started the British Grand Prix from 19th on the grid after a spin in Q1 that left him eliminated from the first qualifying session. He finished the Saturday sprint race in 12th, then delivered one of his best performances of the season on Sunday, climbing ten places during the race to end in ninth place and claim two championship points for Alpine.
The race was marked by a late‑season safety‑car deployment after Max Verstappen spun out, and a five‑second penalty for Kimi Antonelli that promoted Colapinto into the points. Charles Leclerc won the Grand Prix, with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton completing the podium. During the race Colapinto voiced frustration about a near‑collision with teammate Pierre Gasly, saying he would discuss the incident privately.
Colapinto praised his own “good start” and “solid medium‑tyre pace,” noting that “sometimes injustice ends and a bit of luck helps.” The result lifts him to 13th in the drivers’ standings with 18 points.
