Franco Colapinto penalized 10 places for US Grand Prix

Argentine Formula 1 driver Franco Colapinto will start from 21st position in the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin. Despite finishing 14th in the Q2 qualifying session, Colapinto received a 10-place grid penalty after his Alpine team installed a fourth electronic control unit, exceeding the regulatory limit of three per season.

The technical decision follows recent reliability issues, including engine and battery failures experienced during the Singapore Grand Prix. Colapinto noted after qualifying that the team struggled to find the right setup, particularly with car handling over the track's bumps and curbs.

Other drivers facing grid penalties include Arvid Lindblad (Racing Bulls), who will drop five positions, and Gabriel Bortoleto (Audi), who faces a 20-place penalty for exceeding component limits. In qualifying, Kimi Antonelli secured pole position for Mercedes, followed by Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar.
