Franco Compagnoni flags staff cuts and safety lapses at Luino hospital

Franco Compagnoni, newly appointed municipal health delegate in Luino, has highlighted a series of problems at the town’s hospital. He condemned the closure of the reception desk, severe understaffing, delayed contractual renewals for junior doctors and a lack of essential safety systems such as fire alarms and video surveillance. Compagnoni also warned that the orthopaedics department is operating in “serious distress” and that climate‑control projects have been stalled for years.

Compagnoni welcomed the upcoming visit of regional health assessor Guido Bertolaso, calling it an opportunity to address the hospital’s shortcomings and to mark the completion of the community‑health phase with the inauguration of a new “Casa di comunità”. He urged the regional administration to ensure continuous 24‑hour security and to accelerate pending works so the facility can meet basic standards for patients and staff.
