Franco family earns over €500,000 from auction of Pazo de Meirás items
An auction of 689 items from the Pazo de Meirás, organized by Magna Art Auctions for the Martínez-Bordiú family, has concluded with earnings exceeding €500,000. The items, which were removed from the property's inventory, saw high demand, with only 12 lots remaining unsold.
Notable sales included a collection of eight shotguns for €20,000, the highest price achieved. A personal brown leather briefcase dedicated to Francisco Franco sold for €19,000, significantly exceeding its €350 starting price. Additionally, a 1970 photograph of former King Juan Carlos I featuring a dedication to Franco sold for €8,000.
Other items sold included military portraits of the former dictator and a 17th-century Talavera de la Reina enameled ceramic pitcher. The auction house described the event as a “resounding and magnificent success,” noting an “avalanche” of bids during the first day of sales.
