Franco-Italian UOFI Deploys First Time for G7 Summit Security in Evian

The Franco‑Italian Operational Unit (UOFI), created on 19 May 2026 during a visit to Rome by French Gendarmerie Director General Hubert Bonneau, carried out its inaugural deployment as part of the security arrangement for the G7 summit scheduled for 15‑17 June 2026 in Évian‑les‑Bains, France. The unit, composed of 20 French gendarmes (split between the Alvernia‑Rodano‑Alpi and Provence‑Alpes‑Côte d’Azur regions) and 20 Italian Carabinieri (from the Piemonte regiment in Turin and the Liguria battalion in Genoa), was formally presented at a ceremony on Place du 8 Mai 1945 in front of the Publier town hall. Language proficiency was a prerequisite: French gendarmes hold Italian language certificates, while Carabinieri passed a French‑language test. The deployment underscores the close cooperation between the two forces and their joint role in safeguarding large‑scale international events.

The UOFI will operate under the command of Captain Robert Dossmann, with a focus on maintaining public order, pursuing criminals, and protecting people and property along the Franco‑Italian border during the summit.
