Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention announce 'Freak Out!' 60th anniversary edition

To mark the 60th anniversary of the debut album 'Freak Out!', Zappa Records and UMe are releasing an expanded '60th Anniversary Edition' in various formats. The release includes a six-disc Super Deluxe Edition featuring 105 tracks, many of which were previously unreleased material from Frank Zappa’s vault.

Produced by archivist Joe Travers, the collection includes 24-bit/192kHz digital transfers and mastering by John Polito. The extensive set contains the original 1966 core album, a rediscovered pre-master mix, a restored mono mix, live recordings from the Fillmore Auditorium, original rehearsals, demos, and vocal reference mixes.

In addition to the Super Deluxe Edition, a 180-gram, five-LP box set will be available, featuring the pre-master mix, mono master, and additional highlights. The expanded collection will also be released in digital formats.
