Frankfurt arson destroys Ukraine humanitarian aid warehouse
An arson attack at the Viktor-Frankl-Schule in the Dornbusch district of Frankfurt has destroyed tons of humanitarian aid intended for Ukraine. The fire broke out early Friday morning in a building currently not used for school operations, which was being utilized by the initiative ‘Frankfurt for Ukraine’ as a temporary storage facility.
Approximately 20 pallets of donated goods were completely destroyed. The supplies, which were scheduled for transport to Ukraine the following week, included medical equipment, wheelchairs, crutches, and items for hospitals, orphanages, and emergency responders. The shipment also contained supplies intended to help civilians cope with energy shortages and cold weather, such as candles.
Frankfurt police have launched an investigation into the incident, with the State Security Commissioner (Staatsschutzkommissariat) involved to determine if the fire was politically motivated. Emergency services, including over 300 personnel from the professional and volunteer fire departments and the THW, worked for approximately 19 hours to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighboring school buildings.
