Fraud incidents reported in Kozani and Volos, Greece

Authorities in Greece are investigating multiple telephone fraud incidents targeting residents in the Thessaly and Macedonia regions.

In Kozani, police identified two suspects, a 69-year-old Greek man and a 21-year-old foreign national, following a scam against a 30-year-old woman. The victim was deceived into depositing 3,236 euros into a bank account after being presented with false information. Criminal proceedings for fraud have been initiated against the two men.

In Volos, a separate incident involved the use of artificial intelligence to mimic a child's voice. A mother was coerced into handing over her gold jewelry to scammers after receiving a call from a voice she believed was her child requesting urgent help. Reports indicate the perpetrators may have used a brief initial call to record the child's voice to facilitate the AI-generated impersonation.
