Freddie Mercury celebrated as fans mark his 80th birthday

The world commemorates the 80th birthday of Freddie Mercury, the legendary frontman of Queen. Born Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar, Mercury became a global rock icon after moving to the United Kingdom.

To mark the milestone, a new anamorphic mural titled ‘I’m Mr Mercury’ has been unveiled on the Spanish Steps in Wembley Park, London. Created by street artist Frank Styles, the artwork uses perspective to resolve into Mercury’s portrait when viewed from a specific point. The mural includes symbolic elements such as koi carp, representing his love for Japan, and winged figures reflecting his Virgo zodiac sign.

Bandmate Roger Taylor has shared reflections on Mercury’s enduring legacy, noting that his impact as a performer remains unmatched. Other tributes include events in Montreux and upcoming exhibitions at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Personal accounts from longtime associate Mary Austin also highlight the deep bond and mutual respect shared between the singer and his close friend.
