Many supporters arrived in flamboyant costumes reflecting Mercury’s iconic stage presence, congregating near the statue overlooking Lake Geneva to sing and honor his musical legacy. During the festivities, Mercury’s sister, Kashmira Bulsara, joined the commemorations and appeared on stage to cut a commemorative cake.

Montreux remains a significant location where Mercury spent his final years and recorded much of his later work at Mountain Studios, which now serves as a Queen exhibition space. Further tributes include the release of ‘A Life in Lyrics’ by Mary Austin, which offers a personal look at his life through handwritten lyrics and previously unseen images. The Victoria and Albert Museum has also announced a free exhibition titled ‘Freddie Mercury | Splendid Things’, running from October 24, 2026, to January 17, 2027. Mercury, born Farrokh Bulsara in Stone Town, Zanzibar, moved to England in 1964 following the Zanzibar revolution. He rose to global stardom with Queen before passing away in 1991.
