Free Hepatitis C Screening Days Held in Caserta and Salerno, Italy
The Provincial Order of Physicians in Caserta organized a free, rapid Hepatitis C (HCV) screening on Thursday, 2 July 2026, for residents born between 1969 and 1989. The test, conducted with a fingertip blood drop, requires no appointment and is open to all locals, including temporarily present foreigners. Dr. Carlo Manzi, president of the Order, emphasized the initiative’s role in early disease detection, while Dr. Emanuele Spina highlighted its public‑health importance.
In Salerno, the AFT Salerno 3 General Practitioners’ group held an Open Day on Saturday, 27 June, offering the same free HCV screening alongside vaccinations for HPV, Herpes Zoster and pneumococcus. Campania still has an estimated 100 000 undiagnosed HCV carriers, making such outreach crucial for early treatment, which can cure over 95 % of cases. Both events aim to increase awareness, identify silent infections, and connect patients with curative therapy.
