Free Pet Sterilizations Launched in Puebla, Mexico and Santa Ana, Costa Rica

The municipal government of Puebla, Mexico, led by Mayor Pepe Chedraui, completed more than 200 animal‑protection events that resulted in 18,678 free sterilizations of dogs and cats. The campaign included 6,738 dog sterilizations (4,729 females, 1,944 males) and 11,940 cat sterilizations (7,357 females, 4,583 males), aiming to control pet populations, prevent abandonment, and promote responsible ownership.

In Santa Ana, Costa Rica, the local government announced a series of free spay‑neuter sessions for dogs and cats across several community centers. Residents must attend an informational briefing to register, provide ID and proof of residence, and meet basic eligibility criteria. Sessions are scheduled for late July and early August at venues in Matinilla‑Salitral, Las Promesas‑Brasil, and Piedades.

Both initiatives reflect municipal efforts to improve animal welfare and public health through cost‑free sterilization services.
