Greek municipalities roll out free summer cultural events for children

The municipalities of Aigaleo, Piraeus, the Crete region and Aspropyrgos are running free summer cultural programmes in 2026 aimed at children and families.

In Aigaleo, the municipal culture department organised activities in public squares, the library and parks, including scouting games, storytelling, a "Little Gardeners" workshop and performances of the traditional character Karagiozis. Mayor Lambros Sklavounis said, "The summer in our city has children at its centre. Through these actions we gave life to the neighbourhoods and created opportunities for play, creation and family gathering."

The Crete regional government scheduled 28 free children’s theatre performances in 24 towns and villages from 10 July to 20 September, covering themes such as diversity, bullying, environmental protection and responsible use of technology.

Piraeus continued its "Summer in the City 2026" programme on 11‑12 July with free events across neighbourhoods, including theatre, shadow‑play, children’s cinema, creative workshops and interactive games.

Aspropyrgos also announced three cultural events for all ages during the week, completing a nationwide effort to provide accessible, family‑friendly summer activities.
