Freedom Flotilla Coalition launches maritime mission to challenge Gaza blockade
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) has launched a new international maritime mission intended to challenge the blockade of Gaza. The coalition aims to reach the Gaza coast in October.
Two vessels are currently involved in the mission. The Handala II previously sailed through Scandinavia, including Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, during June and July. The ship Kate departed from Bristol, UK, and has made stops in Ireland, Germany, and France.
The flotilla plans to call at several European ports, including those in Spain, Portugal, and Italy, before proceeding to Gaza. The mission includes a diverse group of participants, such as human rights advocates, journalists, medical professionals, and elected representatives.
FFC steering committee member Zohar Chamberlain Regev stated that the mission is a response to governments failing to uphold their obligations. The coalition is calling on international governments to guarantee safe passage for the vessels and to press for an end to the obstruction of food, water, and medicine into the region.
