Overview

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) is organizing maritime expeditions to challenge the Israeli naval blockade of the Gaza Strip. In August, the vessel Kate departed from Bristol, United Kingdom, carrying 12 activists, including Irish captain Fiacc O Brolchain. The Handala II has traveled through Scandinavia, calling at ports in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, while the Kate has visited Ireland, Germany, and France. The fleet is expected to call at ports in Spain, Portugal, and Italy before proceeding toward Gaza.

The mission includes a diverse group of participants, including medical professionals, journalists, human rights advocates, and elected representatives. The FFC aims to mobilize public pressure to halt weapons shipments and diplomatic cooperation with Israel, denouncing what they describe as ‘the complicity of the international community’. Activists have stated they are prepared to face risks of detention and violence during the expedition.
