Freedom Flotilla vessel Kate departs Bristol to challenge Gaza blockade

The vessel Kate, carrying 12 activists, has departed from Bristol, United Kingdom, as part of a Freedom Flotilla mission to challenge the Israeli blockade of Gaza. The departure was marked by a gathering of supporters at Hannover Quay.

Among the activists on board is Irish sailor and captain Fiacc O Brolchain, who previously experienced detention by Israeli forces. Frank Romano, an international lawyer and member of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, stated that Israeli forces have intercepted and detained more than 75 solidarity ships and boats since October 2023. He noted that while he has pursued legal action to recover vessels, he has only successfully retrieved two.

Since 2010, Israel has intercepted or attacked every flotilla attempting to breach the Gaza blockade, including those in international waters.
