Freeport Indonesia projects up to $7 billion in annual state revenue by 2030

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) said its contribution to Indonesia’s treasury could rise to more than US$7 billion (about Rp 120 trillion) per year by 2030 as the company reaches full production capacity at its Grasberg mine and expands operations. The firm estimates a payment of US$4.7 billion (approximately Rp 85 trillion) in 2027, split between US$1.9 billion in taxes, US$1.9 billion in dividends to the state‑owned MIND ID, and US$800 million in non‑tax revenue. These forecasts assume copper prices of US$6 per pound and gold at US$4,500 per ounce.

Freeport’s plans include restoring the Manyar smelter in Gresik to produce 600 000 tonnes of copper cathode annually, a production ramp‑up to 65 % this year and 75 % in early 2027, and launching the new Block Kucing Liar mine in 2029. After a dip in contributions following a 2025 landslide at the underground Grasberg Block Cave, the company expects a steady rise in payments, potentially exceeding US$7 billion from 2028 onward.
